A yellow belt vs a black belt 😳

This black belt fighter is having a bad time against this yellow belt fighter.

We are not sure if he is really a yellow belt or he has been doing Taekwondo for many years without being promoted to the next belts.

In this sparring we can see the red corner (Yellow belt) controling the fight and using good kicking techniques and also powerful attacks, we can see that clearly in the reactions of the black belt fighter who seems to feel much pain through the impact of the kicks.
Not sure how the new generation would see this nowadays, but a long time ago it is a big deal if a fighter beats someone higher in rank (blue vs red for example)

Let's watch this sparring and feel free to share your thoughts about it.

  1. Back when in the 60's and early 70's there were more real qualified Black Belts. Most Black Belts in the US today wouldn't pass my Green Belt tests.....Jay Holt

    1. It's obvious he has a great spinning back kick that takes a while to learn .However most kicks are similar in different styles so he may be a black belt in another style yet only a Yellow belt in teakwondo .

  3. What did they do, just give him the black belt?

  4. His left knee got injured early in the match - he can't kick with it or support himself on it. Plus that yellow looks way sharper than a yellow should...

  5. It depends on your practise... Belts are fake

  6. I stayed in yellow belt for 3 years and beat the hell out of the higher color belts in other dojang.

  9. The guy on black belt.... Had a leg injury.... Maybe that's the reason why a yellow belt defeated him....

  10. Clearly it's not yellow belt...you can see the technique in the kicks and is impossible that a yellow belt do that...

  11. The only way to promote is to learn all the additional parts like patterns/poomse, step-sparring, etc. So one can stay at a belt level for a long time but become proficient in sparring. A person can also come from another school/club which is not fully recognized by a new club they joined. For example a person could come from an ITF Club and be a Black Belt but move to a WTF school and not have their Black Belt recognized until they learn all the poomse. But what causes me to question is why, at the tournament, they would have a yellow belt and a black belt competing against each other. I can see a Red belt and Black belt but a Yellow????

  13. By the time i started tae kwon do, i was developing my kicks to kick russian soldiers in the face in combat. The only person in my dojang that I was going to lose to was my master and grandmaster.

You can train in other disciplines and become proficient.

  14. it happens in the jka also, ranks from other styles start out lower than there actual skill level. Although they should be able to move up quickly ,also a black belt would never be tournament sparring with a yellow belt

  15. im not sure if its the same, but back in my high school, most of us got trained just doing sparring so we would do spin kicks, bullet kicks before we got to yellow belt. it was very common with public schools who relied heavily on alumnis training us.

  16. The black belt, could indeed be a black belt in whatever Kwan and of the various TaekwonDo styles there are, but that yellow belt, may be a yellow in whatever Kwan he is representing, but definitely is NOT a yellow in the discipline of style in TaekwonDo, he has prior training from a different Kwan of the style, whether it be Tangsoodo, HwarangDo, Taesoo Do, Moo Duk Kwan. This has to be a local competition based on WTF. At 1:59 of the video, take a look in the upper right background of the 2 kids, both "black belts" practice kicking and horsing around in the stands lol. This competition is based on WTF (Full contact) and not ITF (Semi Contact) scoring, so you're going to see a lot of disparities between skill of attacks and contact versus scoring. You only score for a successful mid chest strike and all other strikes are not scored, not even head shots. If you notice, at the end of the video, the score is still 1 to 1. Blue scored first with a roundhouse that struck dead center chest at .31 seconds in the video, then Blue scored once with the spinning back kick at 1:12 of the video. This competition emphasis in technique as is the WTF style, rather than the ITF style that emphasizes more on self defense and combat competition. In this respect, the 2 competitors, though looks to be unevenly matched, is competing within the guidelines and rules of the competition. Lastly, the WTF rules state that if a competitor severely injures his opponent, it is an automatic disqualification for the attacker. Full power, intended Head shots are actually illegal in both the ITF and WTF
