During last these last two decades, many huge changes occurred to Taekwondo especially the rules of kyorugi competition and still happening now.

The poomsae competition is very new compared to sparring, and It only started in 2006, and we do think that it should have started so early together with the founding of Kyorugi.

The poomsae part also changed through the years, and the old Taekwondo generation witnessed some big changes such as replacing Palgwe Poomsaes by Taegeuk pommsaes.

About 6 years ago, the Kukkiwon created new poomsaes for the competition and the plan was to be applied in 2018.

The Kukkiwon and the Asian Union worked together and created these 10 new poomsaes:

Himchari (힘차리) the "Powerful Challenge", for tournament competitors under age 18

Yamang (야망), for tournament competitors under age 18

Saebyeol (새별) the "New Star", for tournament competitors ages 18-30

Nareusya (나르샤) "Flying Upward", for tournament competitors ages 18-30; also known as Bee-Gak Sam Jang by World Taekwondo

Bigak (비각) the "Flying Kick", for tournament competitors ages 18-30; also known as Bee-Gak Ee Jang by World Taekwondo (note that this is distinct from the 2007 form often romanized as Bikkak)

Eoullim (어울림), for tournament competitors in their 30s and 40s

Saeara (새아라), for tournament competitors in their 30s and 40s

Hansol (한솔), for tournament competitors in their 50s and 60s

Narae (나래), for tournament competitors in their 50s and 60s

Onnuri (온누리), for tournament competitors in their 50s and 60s

These new forms (poomsaes) probably shocked many poomsaes athletes who used to compete, and according to some athletes it would be a big challenge to learn new poomsaes and train hard for the competition. The new poomsaes contain some hard techniques that not all taekwondo practitioners can perform such as 540 degree kick or jumping triple kicks.

The good thing for many Poomsae athletes is that the World taekwondo or the Kukkiwon did not succeed to apply these new poomsaes in the World taekwondo Poomsae Championships.

Please let us know what do you think about these new poomsaes? Should the Kukkiwon and WT apply them in the competition??

Here Himchari poomsae as an example:
