The worst cheater in boxing history
The story today is about what we can call the worst cheating in the boxing history, and unfortunately this story is very dramatic because it did not stop only on the ring but it has many terrible consequences later.
You can find many cheaters in most sports, and those athletes aim to win a competition and not more than that, and which makes our story different today is that the cheating trick was a life threatening of the other opponent.
On June 16, 1983, a boxing match was held at Madison Square Garden in New York between Billy Collins Jr and Luis Resto.
Billy Collins Jr was an American young athlete aged of 21 years old at the time, and holding a vey impressive record of 15 fights, he won 14 fights, 11 of them by knockout, and 1 no contest.
Luis Resto is a Puerto Rican, and was aged of 28 years old at the time when he fought Billy, He had a a record of 31 fights, won 19 fights (8 by knockout), lost 8 fights, 2 draws and 1 no contest.
Billy struggled too much in this fight and it looked like Luis was punishing him, Billy's eyes were swollen and they declared Luis as a winner. and it is strange that Billy could resist 10 rounds of this Illegal beating.
Everything till here was normal till Luis went to talk to Billy's father and trainer.
When Billy's father touched the gloves of Luis he knew there was something that was not normal in those gloves that had no padding.
The referee went with Luis to the changing room and got his gloves.
The investigation revealed that someone had removed an ounce of padding from each of his gloves then filled them with chalk
The damage that this dirty cheating trick did to Billy's eyes was dangerous and the doctor told him that he should stop boxing or he will be blind.
This news from the doctor was a shock for the young Billy, He had started smoking too much and drinking too much.
In 1984, Billy had a terrible accident and passed away at the age of 22 years old.
