ELIGIBILITY REGULATIONS FOR TRANSGENDER ATHLETES
Transgender athletes face unique challenges when it comes to participating in sports, including the sport of Taekwondo. In order to address these challenges and ensure fair competition, World Taekwondo has established regulations regarding the eligibility of Transgender athletes to compete in the sport.
The term 'Transgender' is defined as individuals whose gender identity differs from the sex assigned to them at birth. This can apply to individuals of any age and regardless of whether they have undergone any medical intervention to transition. World Taekwondo aims to facilitate the participation of Transgender athletes at the international level of the sport by allowing them to compete in the category that aligns with their gender identity.
The regulations set forth by World Taekwondo are designed to protect the health and safety of all athletes, while also ensuring fair and meaningful competition. It is important to maintain separate competition categories for males and females due to the physiological differences that exist between the two genders, particularly in terms of size, strength, and power. This helps to preserve the safety, fairness, and integrity of the sport for all participants and stakeholders.
To be eligible to compete in the male category of competition at an International Competition, a Transgender male athlete must provide a written declaration confirming their gender identity as male. This declaration must be submitted to the Medical Manager at least six weeks prior to the competition. Upon receipt of the declaration, the Medical Manager will issue a certification of eligibility for the athlete to compete in the male category.
For Transgender female athletes wishing to participate in the female category of competition at an International Competition or set a World Record, additional requirements must be met. These include providing a written declaration of gender identity as female, demonstrating that testosterone levels have been below 10 nmol/L continuously for at least 12 months, and maintaining testosterone levels below this threshold for ongoing eligibility.
It is important to note that no athlete will be forced to undergo any medical assessment or treatment in order to compete. The decision to undergo any assessment or treatment is left to the athlete in consultation with their medical team.
Overall, World Taekwondo's regulations aim to create a level playing field for all athletes, including Transgender individuals, while also upholding the core values of the sport. By providing clear eligibility criteria and guidelines, World Taekwondo seeks to promote inclusivity, fairness, and safety in Taekwondo competitions at the international level..

I hate the way this once great sport has developed in the last few years and you have just put the final nails in the coffin by pandering to this total brain-dead nonsense. Taekwondo is almost unmatchable now and it breaks my heart as an active competitor in the 80s and 90s when tkd was a real martial art .now itaa disgrace , no disrespect to the athletes (previously known as fighters ) but it's the most boring and complex sport to watch
