In a dramatic turn of events, Cuban heavyweight Lenier Peró emerged victorious over Ukraine’s Viktor Faust in a thrilling 8th round stoppage at the heavyweight contest in San Antonio, Texas. Faust, who was ahead on two of the judges' scorecards, was controlling the action with his long jab until Peró unleashed a hard right to Faust's body followed by a left hand that left Faust defenseless. Peró capitalized on this opportunity and landed several unanswered punches, prompting the referee to stop the fight at 2:28 of the 8th round.

Despite being on the receiving end of heavier shots, Peró remained committed to attacking Faust’s body, landing 51 body shots throughout the bout. Faust, on the other hand, out-landed Peró in total punches. The turning point of the fight came in the 8th round when Peró inflicted significant damage with a right to the body and left to the head, causing Faust to stop fighting and turn his back on his opponent.

Following the match, Faust admitted to experiencing pain in his ribs from the 6th round onwards, which hindered his ability to compete at full potential. Although Faust believed he was winning and controlling the fight, the unbearable pain from a missed punch in the 8th round left him unable to continue, ultimately awarding the victory to Peró due to injury.

With this win, Peró maintained his undefeated record, improving to 9-0 with 5 knockouts, while Faust suffered his first career loss, dropping to 11-1 with 7 knockouts. This defeat marked Faust's second loss to the Peró brothers, as he was also defeated by Lenier's younger brother, Dainier, in the amateurs.
