stuns Roosevelt Roberts with wild knockout kick in final seconds
On April 10, 2021, Ignacio Bahamondes faced John Makdessi at UFC on ABC 2. During the weigh-ins, he came in 0.75 pounds over the lightweight non-title fight limit, resulting in the bout proceeding at a catchweight and Bahamondes being fined 20% of his individual purse, which went to Makdessi. Despite the setback, Bahamondes lost the bout via split decision.
His next fight was against Roosevelt Roberts at UFC on ESPN 29 on August 21, 2021. Bahamondes managed to win the fight via knockout, just five seconds before the final bell in the third round, earning him a Performance of the Night bonus award.
Following this, he faced Rong Zhu at UFC Fight Night: Makhachev vs. Green on February 26, 2022, and emerged victorious with a submission in the third round. Although he was scheduled to fight Ľudovít Klein on July 30, 2022, Bahamondes pulled out on July 15, 2022.
Later, he was set to fight Nikolas Motta at UFC 287 on April 8, 2023, but Motta pulled out in late March due to a cut on his head. Trey Ogden replaced him, and Bahamondes went on to win the bout via unanimous decision at a catchweight of 160 pounds. Unfortunately, his rematch with Ľudovít Klein scheduled for August 5, 2023, at UFC Fight Night 226 ended in a loss via unanimous decision.
Meanwhile, Roosevelt Roberts made his UFC debut on November 20, 2018, against Darrell Horcher at The Ultimate Fighter 28 Finale, winning the fight via a guillotine choke in the first round, earning the Performance of the Night award.
His following fights included a win against Thomas Gifford at UFC Fight Night: Jacaré vs. Hermansson in April 2019, a loss to Vinc Pichel at UFC on ESPN 3 in June 2019, and a win against Alexander Yakovlev at UFC on ESPN+ 21 in November 2019.
After a scheduled bout with Matt Frevola was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic in April 2020, Roberts went on to win against Brok Weaver at UFC on ESPN: Woodley vs. Burns later that month. He then lost to Jim Miller at UFC Fight Night: Blaydes vs. Volkov in June 2020, and suffered another loss to Kevin Croom at UFC Fight Night 177 in September 2020, although this result was later overturned to a no contest due to Croom testing positive for marijuana.
Roberts faced Ignacio Bahamondes on August 21, 2021, at UFC on ESPN 29, losing the fight via knockout in the third round. Shortly after this loss, he was released by the UFC on September 17, 2021.
