Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson was born on May 2, 1972, in Hayward, California to parents Ata Fitisemanu Maivia and Rocky Johnson. His father, Rocky Johnson, was a Canadian professional wrestler who won the World Tag Team Championship in 1983, becoming the first black wrestling champion in WWE history. His mother, Ata, was the adopted daughter of Peter Maivia, who was also a professional wrestler, which made Dwayne a non-blood relative of the Anoa'i wrestling family. In 2008, Dwayne inducted his father and grandfather into the WWE Hall of Fame.

Dwayne's childhood was split between living in Grey Lynn, New Zealand, and the United States. His father was a Black Nova Scotian with some Irish ancestry, while his mother is Samoan. Throughout his high school years, Dwayne struggled with crime and was arrested multiple times for fighting, theft, and check fraud. However, his high school football coach, Jody Cwik, saw his potential and recruited him to the team, which led to a personal transformation for Dwayne. He played defensive tackle and showcased his athletic abilities in football, track and field, and wrestling.

Despite only playing football for two years, Dwayne was offered a full athletic scholarship to the University of Miami. After high school, Dwayne pursued a career in professional wrestling, following in his father's footsteps, and eventually became a professional wrestler before transitioning to a successful career in acting.

Dwayne's father, Rocky Johnson, was born in Amherst, Nova Scotia, and was raised as the fourth of five sons. He was descended from Black Loyalists who had immigrated to Nova Scotia to escape from a plantation in the United States. Rocky began wrestling at the age of 16 in Toronto and eventually became a successful professional wrestler after training to be a boxer.

Despite his initial struggles and run-ins with the law, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has built a successful career as a professional wrestler, actor, and entrepreneur, largely as a result of his determination and perseverance. His journey from a troubled teenager to a worldwide star serves as an inspiration to many.
